Commercial Gas Services in London

Everything a commercial building needs from a Gas Safe registered engineer, grouped by type of work.

Find the right commercial gas service

A commercial gas visit can mean a planned installation, a routine appliance service, a safety inspection or an urgent response to equipment that has stopped working. These are different jobs with different tests and records. Start with the type of equipment and what you need to achieve, then use the relevant category below to find a specific service page. If a gas leak is suspected, do not book a routine visit: turn off the supply if safe to do so, avoid electrical switches, ventilate the area and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

For new or altered installations, the supply and connected load should be considered before choosing an appliance or pipe size. A finished job may involve strength and tightness testing, purging, commissioning and a handover record. For a breakdown, the immediate task is to determine whether an appliance can remain in use and where the fault actually lies. A fault display provides a clue, not a diagnosis; an on-site engineer checks the installation and its safety controls.

For an annual inspection, tell us which appliances and parts of the gas installation must be included. A CP42 for a catering kitchen, a CP16 for testing and purging pipework and a CP15 commissioning record serve different purposes. A certificate records a defined check; it cannot substitute for a repair or a full maintenance programme. Keep previous reports ready so the engineer can identify any defect that has appeared before.

Equipment and systems we cover

Commercial gas pipework includes supplies from the meter outlet, distribution branches, risers, regulators and isolation valves. Work on a live system needs a clear boundary, a safe interruption plan and the right test and purge procedure for its size and pressure. A visible leak, corroded section or undersized branch may require different remedial work; the engineer confirms what is appropriate at the site.

Commercial boilers can serve heating, hot water or both. A single failed module in a cascade affects a building differently from total loss of plant. The make, exact model, fault history, controls, gas supply, flue and circulation all matter when tracing a lockout. Planned servicing should include appropriate safety and combustion checks, with the findings recorded for the next visit.

Commercial water heaters include storage and continuous-flow units. When hot water fails, note the affected outlets, peak demand and whether other heaters remain in service. A burner fault, scale, a temperature control problem and a downstream water issue can produce different symptoms. Replacement capacity should be based on actual demand and recovery requirements rather than simply matching the dimensions of an old unit.

Commercial catering gas covers cooking appliances and their connection to the kitchen gas and ventilation systems. Ranges, fryers and ovens must be assessed with their flame supervision, hoses, restraints, extraction interlock and emergency shut-off. A kitchen can have working burners yet still need safety work. Provide an appliance inventory when booking a CP42 or a repair.

Warehouse gas heaters include warm-air and radiant systems in high-bay spaces. Tell us the type and location of each unit and whether access equipment is needed. Heater performance can depend on the burner, fan, flue, air-proving devices and building controls. The safe outcome must be recorded per unit when several similar heaters are installed across one site.

Preparing your London site

Share the site address, the best entrance, the name of the person able to provide access and any permits or induction requirements. Photos of appliance data plates and fault displays can help identify equipment before attendance, but only collect them where it is safe to do so. Please also tell us about planned opening hours, shift changes and anyone who will be affected if the gas has to be turned off.

For planned work, make the meter, isolation valves, plant or kitchen equipment and previous documentation available. A drawing is useful, but may not reflect later alterations. For urgent faults, say whether the supply has been isolated, which systems still operate and whether gas can be smelled. Do not try repeated resets or bypass an interlock to keep a building running.

The engineer should confirm what is included, whether further diagnosis or parts are required and the status of each affected appliance before leaving. Retain the service report, readings, test results and any relevant certificate with the building's records. If a defect remains outstanding, give the next shift or building manager a clear instruction about what must stay out of use. Call 0208 935 5572 to discuss a visit or choose a service below for more detail.

Every business uses gas differently. A restaurant may need a kitchen inspection and interlock check, while an office block may need boiler-plant servicing and a pipework test. Choosing the page closest to your actual need makes it easier to explain the work, but a competent engineer will still confirm the installation, the correct qualification category and the safe way to proceed on site. If you are unsure which record is required, describe the equipment and the work rather than asking for a certificate by name alone.
