Short answer
Ideal Evomax 2 boilers show numbered faults from 1 to 99 (for example 'Fault 39 — lockout flow overheat'), not L or F codes. Each fault is a warning (W), blocking (B — clears itself when the condition goes) or lockout (L — needs a manual reset). Codes 1–24 are sensor faults, 30–42 temperature supervision, 50–81 flame, fan and water flow, and 93–99 internal control faults.
How faults appear on the Evomax 2
When a fault occurs the status display title bar alternates with the word 'Fault'. Turning the scroll knob shows the detail, such as 'Fault 39'. Once the cause is fixed the fault is reset by pressing reset in that display. Several faults at once are listed together and each can be opened.
Ideal's user guide also notes that a blocked or frozen condensate pipe makes the boiler gurgle and then lock out showing 'Ignition Lockout', and that an overheat shows 'Overheat Lockout'.
The faults we see most in London plant rooms
Fault 58 (no flame after restarts) and 52–56 (flame loss) usually trace to low gas inlet pressure under load, a worn ignition/ionisation electrode, a blocked condensate trap or flue recirculation. Faults 50, 67, 70 and 78 point to water flow — pumps, valves, dirty strainers or poor system design on cascades. Faults 39–42 are overheats that are almost always a flow problem rather than a boiler fault.
Before you reset
A single reset after a power cut or a known one-off event is reasonable. Repeated resets are not: many commercial controls count resets and lock out further (for example a 'too many resets' code), and resetting a flame or gas valve fault over and over can mask a dangerous condition. If a lockout returns, isolate the appliance and call a Gas Safe registered engineer with the relevant commercial competence.
