Short answer
Commercial gas tightness tests use either a water gauge reading to about 0.5 mbar or an electronic manometer reading to 0.1 mbar or better. The gauge readable movement directly sets the test duration under IGEM/UP/1, so a more sensitive gauge shortens the test.
Calibration
Electronic gauges must be calibrated, usually annually, and checked before use. A gauge out of calibration invalidates the test record.
Range
Choose a gauge suitable for the test pressure — strength tests at higher pressures need gauges rated accordingly.
Figures are typical for UK natural gas. The current edition of the relevant IGEM standard and the manufacturer's instructions always take precedence on site.
